Above the last cities before the end of time
No longer great but in comfortable decline

Worn-out spaceships with hulls covered in scars

Star-maps and engines long undeployed

Orbiting idle in the dust-winds of the void

Still sing great romances to the old and tired stars
 

Love stories I know they will remember
But what I most hope will endure

After hottest stars and passions have burned out

Is friendship of a warm and gentle kind

Old companions leaving time behind

I think this is what all the universe is about
