my very first post about Minecraft Dungeons was written when i'd only tried the beta for a few days. my main complaint at the time was that you couldn't transfer arrows between levels, or somehow start a level with more arrows or something. i have since realised that being able to carry over extra arrows into a mission would completely break the ammo stat.

also, i have to say, running out of arrows hasn't really been an issue for me in the past three years. part of is that i've gotten more used to the ammo stat and i have adjusted my expectations with regards to arrow consumption and acquisition, and part of it is that there are plenty of artefacts (especially at higher levels (that weren't available in the beta)) that will give you extra arrows, like the Flame Quiver, Harpoon Quiver or Tome of Duplication. i use harpoon quivers quite a lot, not just for the extra ammo but also for the extra damage and piercing that harpoons do; they're amazing for sniping powerful mobs from a distance or in a crowd.

which leads me to the third reason arrow consumption hasn't been as much of an issue: at higher levels, the bow has never been a primary weapon for me. as is hinted at in a few of my previous Dungeons posts, i mainly go for really powerful bows that can deal huge amounts of damage in a single hit, that i use to take out bosses or other powerful mobs. those tend to have a lower ammo stat (or other limitations in the case of the dynamo/Torment Quiver exploit that has since been patched), but in this use case it's less of a problem.

that takes me to my new biggest regret about bows in Dungeons: i can't really use them as my primary weapon past default difficulty. the damage of the types of bows with a higher ammo stat doesn't scale with enemies' health. i have to say i haven't experimented with this super extensively, maybe there is some balance with the right bow, enchantments and artefacts, but everything just has so much health that it's not worth the effort or arrows to try to take out a significant number of them at range. the only thing that works for me is to just wade in and melee everything. which i think is a shame, because i really enjoyed playing primarily ranged when i first started playing Dungeons.
i said a while back that i was totally going to speedrun minecraft dungeons, and i did practice a bunch for like a week. i even got two sub-hour runs! then i tried to record, and it turns out my 5.5 year old laptop doesn't like running dungeons and OBS at the same time. (also, i needed some time to figure things out. my first attempt at recording ended up being just black screen and the sound of my laptop's fans trying to achieve liftoff. which is like the exact opposite of what i wanted.) the lag was so bad that it significantly affected the quality of my play, so i kinda lost interest tbh
remember, this is a minecraft dungeons themed blog!

dungeons updated yesterday, which is inconvenient because i'm super behind with the Work. yes i have been nolifing dungeons anyway.

the update gave us the Tower. it will remain exactly the same for three weeks. i have only managed to beat it on default difficulty yet and got really fucking close on adventure difficulty (the floor 30 boss had only a few hits left...) but i will beat it on apocalypse eventually! i've made a whole strategy spreadsheet, colour coded and with a tab for each difficulty, with my floor-by-floor combat tips and gear choices. obviously it's based on my preferences, play style and so on, but hmu if you want it, i can send it to you.

also, as far as i can tell the paid DLC includes only cosmetics? and it's inconceivable to me that anyone would spend money on minecraft dungeons skins. i mean, you can't even see them! first of all, the player character is very small. second, the skin is always covered by armour. third, you don't have time to look at the player in the midst of combat. anyway i'm glad i don't have to waste money on that lol

i've done one (1) speedrun! i aimed for sub one hour, but i game overed a few times and ended up with a total of 01:18:58 (including loading times, which take up to half a minute on my computer). i also calculated that the time excluding failed missions is 00:54:31, but of course i did get some levels and loot on those, too. still, it looks promising for my ability to complete the game in under one hour. so that's going to be my goal for the time being!

also, i usually use the same skin for all my characters, but i think for my speedrun characters i'll use a different one to differentiate them in the menu. not that i'm planning to keep many speedrun characters for a long time.
(yes, this is now a minecraft dungeons themed blog)

so i found out that minecraft dungeons has a maximum difficulty, apocalypse +25, and i have reached it. i have over 25 days of play time, of course distributed over several characters. i really enjoy the progression in dungeons, it's been really fun. of course i'm sure i'll still enjoy doing it a few more times in the future, and i can just mess around with apocalypse +2, but now i want some new things to try.

to start with, i'd like to try some different, less optimised builds. my main character has a very tanky build, but i'd like to try a magic build too, at a lower difficulty. and i used to play ranged in the very beginning, i'd like to do some more of that too.

also, i'm going to give speedrunning a try! i'm not planning to submit anything, just have some fun for myself.
my new favourite bow is a powerbow with overcharge and supercharge enchantments. at level 184, it can do nearly 1.7 million damage per shot, enough to take out anything other than bosses, minibosses, and mobs with deflect at apocalypse +14.

in addition, the new void touched enchantment lets you give enemies a sixfold damage multiplier. so i can take out bosses by walking up to them, giving them the void touched effect with my melee weapon, then shoot them once (7-11 million damage, depending on how i time it).
i have some really good gear that i want to talk about in Minecraft Dungeons!

fighter's bindings
my second-most powerful character recently got Fighter's Bindings with some really good enchantments:
Radiance
Swirling
Critical Hit

which, as far as i know, all have a random activation chance upon each hit. and since the Fighter's Bindings are the fastest melee weapon in the game (again, as far as i know), they activate often. especially if i also have a good Deathcap Mushroom.

BLENDER MODE ACTIVATED

(i also have a scatterbow with Dynamo III and a Torment Quiver, so i can vaporise any mob, including bosses, in one hit. it's almost too easy.)

i have some really good gear that i want to talk about in Minecraft Dungeons!

absurdly overpowered bow
my highest-level character (power level currently 170-ish) has a Powerbow with:
87322 base damage
+33% damage from Power III
+44% damage from Supercharge III
+0–75% damage from Growing III
+20% damage from armour's damage boost stat

so from a bit of a distance it can easily do over 250k damage. as you can imagine, this is what i go for if i'm faced with powerful mobs, like enchanted ones. however, i have to be really careful not to shoot any with the Deflect enchantment, because if that arrow comes back at me, it will kill me every single time (because 48k health with 45% damage reduction won't save you there).

and with a level 160 fireworks rocket, it can even do over 500k damage, which is enough to one-shot most mobs in the game, including enchanted ones. it's like, stupid much damage.

(it's a dungeon crawler. marketed to younger audiences. i shouldn't take it too seriously.)

spoilers for the ending of Minecraft Dungeons/the content of the final cutscene:

spoiler spoiler )

after that, i started wondering which is scarier: the Illager Empire or me. i mean, i do plenty of laying waste to the land, looting chests, smashing pots, slaughtering livestock, eliminating means of production (Fiery Forges, Soggy Swamp) – in addition to all the massacre, of course.
i got my hands on the Minecraft Dungeons beta for the last few days it's active, and here are my main thoughts so far:

the tool-specific power and enchantments are an interesting mechanic to encourage players to get new gear. you can only enchant a single weapon a little and you can't upgrade its base power, so you have an incentive to gather gear with different enchantments and higher power, rather than just improving the same tools.

the main thing i desire is some control over how many arrows you have. some equipment increases how much ammo you pick up by a little bit, or decreases your arrow consumption, but you get arrows when the game wants you to get arrows. you can't craft or buy them, and they don't transfer across missions so you can't even collect arrows on an easy level to start a harder one with like 300.
