cold hands

everywhere is on fire
all winter i have hidden in the cold
stayed away from hearths and flames
no smoking, careful with matches
any spark can spread

there are still fires everywhere
but i am cold, i’m so cold
a teddy bear has no warmth to give
that wasn’t mine all along

i’m cold, are you cold?
maybe we can get together
light a candle
and warm each other’s hands
