my very first post about Minecraft Dungeons was written when i'd only tried the beta for a few days. my main complaint at the time was that you couldn't transfer arrows between levels, or somehow start a level with more arrows or something. i have since realised that being able to carry over extra arrows into a mission would completely break the ammo stat.

also, i have to say, running out of arrows hasn't really been an issue for me in the past three years. part of is that i've gotten more used to the ammo stat and i have adjusted my expectations with regards to arrow consumption and acquisition, and part of it is that there are plenty of artefacts (especially at higher levels (that weren't available in the beta)) that will give you extra arrows, like the Flame Quiver, Harpoon Quiver or Tome of Duplication. i use harpoon quivers quite a lot, not just for the extra ammo but also for the extra damage and piercing that harpoons do; they're amazing for sniping powerful mobs from a distance or in a crowd.

which leads me to the third reason arrow consumption hasn't been as much of an issue: at higher levels, the bow has never been a primary weapon for me. as is hinted at in a few of my previous Dungeons posts, i mainly go for really powerful bows that can deal huge amounts of damage in a single hit, that i use to take out bosses or other powerful mobs. those tend to have a lower ammo stat (or other limitations in the case of the dynamo/Torment Quiver exploit that has since been patched), but in this use case it's less of a problem.

that takes me to my new biggest regret about bows in Dungeons: i can't really use them as my primary weapon past default difficulty. the damage of the types of bows with a higher ammo stat doesn't scale with enemies' health. i have to say i haven't experimented with this super extensively, maybe there is some balance with the right bow, enchantments and artefacts, but everything just has so much health that it's not worth the effort or arrows to try to take out a significant number of them at range. the only thing that works for me is to just wade in and melee everything. which i think is a shame, because i really enjoyed playing primarily ranged when i first started playing Dungeons.
