car hangouts?

one thing i feel like i've noticed a lot lately in american booktube videos is that it seems to be pretty normal in america to just hang around in your car on a parking lot for hours. now i don't have a driving licence myself, so not much experience with deciding what to do with/in a car, and not terribly observant either, but i'm not aware of that really being a thing here. you might wait for someone in your car for a few minutes, but it seems weird to me to just park somewhere and chill for extended periods.
