you know how brits make fun of americans for the word soccer, and then americans are like "but the word soccer is originally from england!! :( "
i think we should look beyond the anglosphere when discussing this matter. the sport that is called soccer in america and football in the uk is also called football in french, voetbal in dutch, футбол in russian, jalkapallo in finnish, Fußball in german, and so on.
in conclusion, i think we absolutely should make fun of americans for the word soccer and for the way they use the word football. but i guess we should also make fun of the english, because the english also deserve to be made fun of, just on general principle.
