i have found my calling as a bureaucrat

current fantasy: the Board considers me a very capable functionary. they are appreciative of my dedication, admirative of my skill, and aware of my loyalty to them. they have seen me deftly manoeuvering my translators, and although my tactics are at times quite shameless, the Board is happy with the results*. they wish they could have me on some more important committees** because my competence and engagement would serve the society well, but they still consider me a valuable asset in my current function.

* in this fantasy, i am more effective at actually motivating "my" translators to do things than i am in real life.
** i am aware that the Translation Committee is one of the low-stakes committees, but this amount of responsibility suits me perfectly.

at a talk i attended, poet Laura van Meijeren (Laura Mijnders) and singer-songwriter Kris Vesseur had the audience listen to "Living Frost" by Mammal Hands and write down whatever words or sentences came to mind. these were mine; they said it was a poem worth sharing. so here it is.
