itrytobei finished Stronger, Faster, and More Beautiful by Arwen Elys Dayton which i've seen such high reviews of. it was pretty good, "St. Ludmilla" was fantastic and the rest were okay.
i feel like people who love this book might enjoy Ted Chiang's stories, which have do a similar thing with picking a concept to speculate with, and focusing on what it means for society and individual people. plus he has the most consistently good stories in my opinion.
