overthinking Minecraft Dungeons

itrytobe(it's a dungeon crawler. marketed to younger audiences. i shouldn't take it too seriously.)
spoilers for the ending of Minecraft Dungeons/the content of the final cutscene:
i was quite annoyed, after i finally beat the Arch-Illager, with the final cutscene: the Arch-Illager cowers on the ground, expecting the coup de grâce, but instead he (predictably) gets helped up by the hero and joins the victory dance. first of all there are absolutely no narrative cues to suggest anything like a redemption thing, or that the Arch-Illager might somehow not be responsible (unless he was possessed by the staff or whatever, that ender-ender thing was pretty fucked up and i had no idea what the deal was the first time it atomised me within five seconds). but also, for some reason he gets spared – this is right after i cold-bloodedly slaughtered thousands of his minions.
after that, i started wondering which is scarier: the Illager Empire or me. i mean, i do plenty of laying waste to the land, looting chests, smashing pots, slaughtering livestock, eliminating means of production (Fiery Forges, Soggy Swamp) – in addition to all the massacre, of course.
